Premier Danielle Smith made her first public appearance in Quebec this week, addressing business leaders and pitching a closer economic alliance between the two provinces.

Smith, speaking in French at a Quebec City business event Wednesday, acknowledged the linguistic and cultural differences between Alberta and Quebec while arguing they could be easily overcome through stronger ties. She joked about her tenuous grasp of French but emphasized the economic opportunity at stake.

The premier also offered a nod to the Montreal Canadiens' recent playoff run, saying she wished the team could have advanced further in the NHL finals.

Smith called on business leaders to deepen their connections with Alberta and said she would do the same upon returning home. She was scheduled to meet with Quebec Premier Christine Fréchette later Wednesday to discuss the partnership.

The visit signals Alberta's interest in broadening its economic relationships beyond traditional Canadian partnerships, particularly as the province navigates its fiscal and political priorities.
