A new online platform called CrewedUp is connecting trades workers with employers in oil and gas, construction, and heavy equipment industries across Canada.
The platform was inspired by co-founder Tim Mason's own struggles finding work as a heavy equipment operator in British Columbia. "I was texting everybody, just like everybody in this industry does when you're sitting and you're looking for work," Mason said. "I just had so much trouble finding work, and I'd always get the response back like, 'Sorry man, we're Crewed up' — because that's a phrase people say out here."
That phrase became the platform's name and concept. CrewedUp is designed for seasonal and project-based work common in northern communities, where availability can change quickly. Employers can search by job type and location, and workers can update their availability status in real time.
One feature drawing unexpected attention is the "ticket wallet," which allows workers to upload certifications, safety documents, and qualifications directly to their profiles. "I've gotten a lot of feedback on the ticket wallet, which I didn't expect," Mason said. "Many workers struggle to keep track of certifications, making the feature valuable for both workers and employers."
Less than three weeks after launching, CrewedUp has grown to more than 400 users with nearly 50 employers already using the platform. Mason said updates are coming through the summer, including interest from a large Canadian company looking at how CrewedUp could support its local workforce in Alberta.
"That's super exciting," Mason said.
