Tim Hortons is shutting down its Tims Rewards credit card program on October 1, ending a three-year run launched in June 2023 as the company looked to expand into financial products.
Cards will still function after the cutoff date, but they'll be managed by Neo Financial — the partner that powered the program — and purchases won't earn Tims Rewards Points anymore.
Eligible customers can upgrade to a Neo Financial Mastercard that includes cashback instead. Tim Hortons positioned the original credit card as appealing to millions of Canadians seeking accessible financial products, but the company has now decided to pivot away from the offering.
This isn't the chain's first foray into branded financial products. In 2014, Tim Hortons partnered with CIBC on the Double Double Visa Card, which was discontinued in 2019 after roughly five years. The company said the new shutdown reflects a shift toward "new ways to bring value to Canadians," though specifics on what comes next weren't detailed.
