Sunday's your day — Van, May 31st.
Sunny, warm, and 16 degrees. Grab sunscreen, book your evening, and get outside while the light holds till 9:08 PM.
Good morning. You've got a proper Sunday ahead — 16°C, sunny, and UV running high at 6.0, so give yourself a layer of sunscreen before you head out. This is the kind of day the city lives for. Light doesn't set till just after 9 PM, so you've got nearly 16 hours of it to work with.
A few transit heads-up if you're moving around early: the 129 out of Holdom at 11:15 is cancelled (mechanical), the R5 heading to Burrard from SFU is delayed for the same reason, the 3 to Waterfront out of Marine Drive at 10:42 is off, and the 133 from Edmonds at 10:50 is down. Nothing catastrophic, but if you're relying on any of those this morning, give yourself a bit of extra time or find an alternate route.
On the bigger picture, Mount Seymour's plotting a major four-season expansion — all pending B.C. Parks approval — so if you've got thoughts on that one, they're coming. Meanwhile, search and rescue is still looking for two missing paddleboarders up at Squamish lake, and there's been a fire forcing people out of a housing complex in Langley. Worth keeping an eye on both.
Weather like this is made for a patio lunch. The food scene's gearing up for World Cup crowds, and there are solid dishes and events worth booking this month if you're keen — Jack's Fish and Chips has rebranded and people are into it fast. If you're thinking dinner out, anywhere with a view or outdoor seating is going to feel right today.
For tonight, you've got real options. The Black Keys are at Rogers Arena at 7:30 if you're in a live-music mood — that's the headliner. Over at the Orpheum, the K-Pop Cover Dance Festival kicks off at 5:30 if you want something earlier and closer to downtown. Mamma Mia! is running at Queen Elizabeth Theatre both this afternoon at 2 PM and tonight at 7:30 if you want the musical route. The city's got energy tonight, and with light holding till after 9, you can easy catch something and still have the evening.
Get yourself out there. This is the weekend doing what it's supposed to.
