Sunny Tuesday, great light till late—Vancouver, June 2
Warm day ahead, sunscreen ready, transit hiccup on the 7, and Mumford & Sons tonight if you're after live music.
Good morning. You've got a Tuesday that's swinging toward summer—17°C right now, climbing toward a proper warm one, and mainly sunny from first light through to a long 9:10 PM sunset. That's nearly 16 hours of daylight, so give yourself extra time to soak it in if you can duck out early. UV's sitting at 7.0, which is high, so five seconds with sunscreen before you head out saves the red tomorrow.
Commute-wise, there's a couple of transit hiccups to know. The 7 Nanaimo has a trip cancelled this morning leaving Dunbar Loop at 7:25 AM due to traffic—service picks back up at 4 Ave & Alma St. If you're catching the 7 from Nanaimo Station at 6:11 AM headed Dunbar way, that one's cancelled from Alma St & 10 Ave. The 105 Uptown's on a detour starting 7:15 AM, rerouting via McBride Blvd and 8 Ave before it gets back to regular route. Good news: the 128 Braid Station detour cleared overnight, so that's back to normal. Nothing dramatic, but if you're catching the 7 or 105 this morning, give yourself the extra buffer.
On the local beat worth knowing: there's still search and rescue happening up the Sea to Sky—paddleboarders missing—so if you're heading that way, keep tabs on conditions. And heads up on the water front: Stage 3 water bans start June 8 across Metro Vancouver, so if you've got a garden or lawn, that window's narrowing. Also watch for the heat to peak today at 31°C before the rain swings back in over the weekend, so today's your patio day if you've been wanting one.
If you're thinking food, today's warmth means you want to be outside. Jack's Fish and Chips has got a new look that's winning people over fast if you're after something quick, or there's a whole run of standout dishes and food events worth booking this month if you want to sit down proper. The weather's holding for a long one, so take your time with it.
Tonight, if you're after live music, Mumford & Sons are headlining Rogers Arena at 7:30 PM—solid call if that's your speed. Quieter mood? Good Co. on Granville's running a free Summer House Season 10 Reunion watch party at 6:00 PM, or Biltmore Cabaret's got Yot Club at 7:00 PM if you want something smaller. Come From Away's running at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage at 7:00 PM too, if theatre's more your thing.
Enjoy the light, and stay sorted out there.
