Cooler Thursday ahead—Vancouver, June 4.
Drop a layer from yesterday, grab sunscreen, and give yourself extra time if you're catching the early bus.
Good morning. Thursday's here and it's noticeably cooler than the last couple of days—we're at 13°C with mostly cloudy skies. That means a light jacket or sweater you can peel off later; sunscreen still matters though, because UV's running high at 7.0, so a quick pass before you head out is worth it. Light holds till 9:12 PM, so you've got over 16 hours of daylight to work with. No rain in the forecast, which is solid.
A couple of early transit heads-ups if you're catching the bus: the 189 Coquitlam to Harwood and Gabriola at 5:54 am is cancelled due to a mechanical issue, and the 189 Lafarge from Coquitlam Central at 5:42 am is also down. The 301 from Richmond-Brighouse at 6:01 am and the 20 from Harrison and Victoria are cancelled too. Give yourself extra time if you're heading out before 6:30 am—things should be running normally after that.
On the local beat: a decade into the toxic drug crisis, Fraser Health is asking what comes next as the region looks ahead. Down in Surrey, police chief Norm Lipinski has been ousted following his return from vacation. There's been a shooting in Langley that's left one person critically injured, and RCMP there is dealing with one of their own—a constable's been charged with dangerous driving in a 2025 collision. Closer to home in Mount Pleasant, a man was arrested after an unprovoked assault on a restaurant worker.
If you're thinking lunch, Nana's Green Tea just opened downtown and they're giving away free matcha this weekend—worth ducking in if you're in the neighbourhood. Gotham Steakhouse is doing summer ease downtown if you want something heartier. Lucky's Doughnuts made Canada's vegan shortlist if that's your lane. The weather's good enough for a quick walk or park time before the clouds thicken, so catch that if you can.
Tonks tonight: if you're after a show, Come From Away is at Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage at 7:30 pm, or the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra's doing Broadway Spectacular at the Orpheum at 2:00 pm if you can slip away early for a matinee. The Happening Dance has a couple of pieces at the Centre for Performing Arts at 6:30 pm, and if you're out late, BLZBO's got VIVO at Village Studios at 10:00 pm. Nothing's too late for dinner before or after.
Stay warm, grab that sunscreen, and cheers.
