Wednesday sun and evening shows — transit heads up, too.

Morning's looking decent — 12°C and partly cloudy, so you've got some actual sun today. UV's running high at 6, so if you're spending the afternoon outside, sunscreen's worth the five seconds. You're looking at a proper long day too: sunset's not until 9:17 tonight, so there's light for hours yet.

Couple of transit things to know if you're heading out. If you use the Expo or Millennium Line at Lougheed Town Centre, the up escalator from the mall level to the platforms is down for now — stairs or the elevator it is. Over on the east side, there's some ongoing construction around 156 Street and 88 Avenue that's shuffled a couple of bus stops around on weeknights through Friday; nothing today during the day, but if you're commuting after 7 PM, the 88 eastbound stop has moved temporarily. And heads up if you're using 22nd Street Station on the Expo Line before 2 PM — the elevator from the main entrance is getting repairs, so you'll need to find another way down to the Waterfront platform.

Small business confidence is taking a hit across the province as oil markets shift, which is worth keeping an eye on if you're watching the local economy. Otherwise, the big story floating around is what it's going to cost to host the World Cup if it comes to Van — the number being floated is somewhere between $320 and $338 million. Not exactly light reading, but it's the kind of conversation people are starting to have.

If you're thinking about food, Pepino's is celebrating Italian Day this Sunday up on the Drive, so that's worth marking. And there's some new spots opening or expanding — Angus T's got a downtown Waterfront location coming, and Dovetail's team is bringing a sibling restaurant called Bevel into Yaletown soon.

Tonite's got some good options if you want to get out. Come From Away is playing a matinee at Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage at 1 PM if you're free during the day, and then there's a 7 PM show if evenings work better. Jazz Sabbath is playing The Pearl at 8 if you want to catch some live rock later. There's also the Whitecaps FC 2 taking on North Texas SC at Swangard at 6 if you're into that.

It's a solid midweek day — good light, decent weather, plenty of ways to spend the evening. Just give transit a quick check before you head out if you're using SkyTrain.

Cheers.
