Breka Bakery & Café opened Thursday, June 11 at King George Hub in Surrey—its ninth location and the first outside Vancouver proper—and drew crowds long enough to stretch the length of the building by mid-morning.

By 10:30 a.m., the queue of people waiting to enter the corner location at Fraser Highway and Whalley Boulevard wrapped around the storefront. Anna Kruger, who has visited Breka in Vancouver "maybe half a dozen times," waited close to 45 minutes. "Anytime we're in Vancouver, I'm like, 'We gotta hit Breka before we leave,'" she said. "It's open 24 hours, so you can go after an event, a concert."

Launched in 2006, Breka is known for breads, cakes, cookies, coffee, and a cult following among late-night food seekers. Customers highlighted gluten-free options, the Nutella donut, chicken panini, and spinach artichoke pastry as standouts. "It's good to have one here because we live right over there, not too far," said Asmi Pahwa, who lives nearby. "It's very convenient, two minutes away."

The 24-hour bakery joins nearly two dozen food establishments at King George Hub, a food-focused SkyTrain-adjacent complex that now includes A&W, Waffle House, Big Way Hot Pot, Chipotle, Jollibee, Marble Slab Creamery, and many others. The complex also houses Save-On-Foods, Rexall, Anytime Fitness, and Sandbox VR.
