B.C. RCMP arrested Donald Steven Lang, 62, in Ucluelet on Saturday, Aug. 22, on an FBI warrant for alleged sexual exploitation of a child in Hawaii.
Lang was indicted on three counts of lewd conduct with a minor and sexual battery of a minor. Court documents allege he produced sexually explicit images of a minor between September and December 2024 aboard his 52-foot sailboat, the Ishi. He is a dual Canadian and U.S. citizen known for sailing around the world with frequent harbour stops in Hawaii.
The arrest came after Federal Policing–Pacific Region and the FBI alerted Ucluelet RCMP to watch for Lang's vessel. The Vancouver Island District General Investigation Section, West Coast Marine, Ucluelet RCMP and the Island District Emergency Response Team located and arrested him without incident. Nanaimo RCMP also assisted.
Lang faces a separate Idaho indictment for child sexual abuse charges stemming from a 2003–2007 incident. If convicted on the Hawaii charges, he faces 15 to 30 years in prison, plus supervised release and fines up to $250,000.
