Tens of thousands of customers lost power across Newfoundland on Saturday as Newfoundland Power reported multiple unplanned outages. The cause remains under investigation.
About 65,000 customers were affected, with outages spanning the Avalon Peninsula, Conception Bay North, the Burin Peninsula, Clarenville, the Bonavista Peninsula, Gander, the New-Wes-Valley area, Grand Falls-Windsor, and the west coast including Corner Brook, Deer Lake, Stephenville, and Port aux Basques.
The company has not yet released details on what triggered the cascading failures. Updates are expected as the investigation continues.
