Sunday pace: brunch, tributes, and a late sunset to stretch it out.
Cool morning, high UV, and a full calendar of live music and theatre if you're heading out.
Hey—it's 10°C and mostly cloudy this morning, so grab a layer if you're planning to be outside. The UV's running high at 7.0, so sunscreen's worth it even on a cloudy day. You've got 16 and a half hours of daylight, and sunset doesn't come until 9:52 PM, so there's real breathing room tonight if you want to catch something live.
Roads are clear and moving fine, so no surprises getting around town.
If you haven't heard, Mark Bluman just pulled off a win at the RBC Grand Prix in his Spruce Meadows debut—proper impressive. Over at the same venue, the Barbie takeover drew thousands in pink, which tells you something about how people are feeling this time of year. And the city's free tree giveaway program has been handing out thousands of saplings, so if you missed it, that's worth knowing for next time.
For lunch or an afternoon bite, there's good energy on the patio circuit now that the spring rains have eased up—bars across the city are seeing a boost, and places like Cactus Club have a fresh summer menu rolling with Frosé and a $9 smash burger if you want something light. If you're thinking Canmore, Grizzly Paw Brewing just marked 30 years as the original brewpub out there. Romero Distilling also opened a cocktail lounge with Prohibition-era rum drinks if that's calling your name.
For the daytime, Come From Away is playing at Theatre Calgary's Max Bell Theatre at 2:00 PM if you're in the mood for Broadway. There's also a Taylor Swift tribute show at Grey Eagle Event Centre at the same time, which tells you the vibe people are after this weekend.
Sports-wise, the Calgary Surge are home against the Winnipeg Sea Bears at WinSport Event Centre at 4:00 PM if you want to catch that.
When evening rolls around, you've got options. Creedence Clearwater Remembered is at the Southern Alberta Jubilee Auditorium at 7:30 PM if you want that classic rock feeling. Over at Grey Eagle, there are two Prince tributes—1999 The Ultimate Prince Experience and A Tribute to Prince, both at 8:00 PM. With that late sunset, you can grab an early dinner outside and still make any of these.
Stay warm out there, and enjoy the long light.
