Okotoks Pride Collective is back with three Pride Week events this June, building community space and celebrating queer culture in the town southwest of Calgary.
The first event is Be Gay Do Crafts on Wednesday, June 10 at 7 p.m. at McMan Family Resource Centre. The space is open to anyone working on a craft project—knitting, colouring, crocheting, collages, or whatever attendees bring. No supplies provided, but plenty of room to hang out and create alongside others.
The centrepiece is the Okotoks Pride Collective Artisan Market on Saturday, June 13 from noon to 6 p.m. at Ethel Tucker Centennial Park. This year's theme is Pink Pony Club, inspired by Chappell Roan's hit song. Drag performer Birthday Girl will host, with performances from Rudy Tuesday, Irene Curtain, and King Neptune. The event features cultural performers, line dancing, and a Zumba class taught by Tamara Boivin.
It's all-ages friendly, with a kids' game area and entertainment suitable for families. A cool-down tent will be available for anyone feeling overwhelmed. Covet Sips + Sweets will be on site. Security trained in non-violent crisis intervention will be present.
The third event is the Okotoks Pride Book Club at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17 at McMan Family Resource Centre. This year's selection is Loveless by Alice Oseman, author of the Heartstopper series. Youneek Books will sell copies at the event.
The collective is still seeking sponsors and volunteers for the market. Interested people can fill out a form on their Instagram (@Okotoks.Pride) or via a direct link in their bio.
The events signal Okotoks' growing Pride presence—small-town queer celebration rooted in genuine community building.
