This week kicks off with National Indigenous Peoples Day events on Sunday, June 21, followed by the JazzYYC Summer Festival running June 22 to 28, featuring live music performances across the city. Tuesday, June 23, brings a read-a-thon to Central Memorial Park, and Wednesday, June 24, features a FIFA World Cup watch party (Canada vs. Switzerland) in Eau Claire Plaza. A free outdoor screening of Scott Pilgrim vs. the World plays Friday, June 25, at High Park.
Country Thunder runs June 26 to 28, bringing country music bands and artists to the city. Saturday, June 27, marks the launch of a new Tyrannosaurus rex experience at Telus Spark (running through November 29), and Sunday, June 28, features Rodney's Oyster Fest and Shucking Competition.
July opens with fireworks on Canada Day (Wednesday, July 1), followed by the Calgary Stampede's Sneak-A-Peek night Thursday, July 2. The Stampede itself dominates the month: Spruce Meadows' North American equestrian tournament (July 1-5), Mexifest (July 3-5), pancake breakfasts, the 4th Annual Stampede Chef Showdown at The District at Beltline (July 6), and rodeo events throughout the week.
Later in July, the Wilder Institute/Calgary Zoo launches the revamped Imagine Asia zone (July 15). The Calgary Folk Music Festival runs July 23-26, and salsa dancing by the Bow River happens Wednesdays until September 9. River Hall opens for drinks Thursdays to Sundays from July 23 to September 27.
Food-focused events include YYC Ice Cream Fest (July 17 through August 16), Tat's Treats' cereal-infused soft serve (July 12), and the Avenue 2026 Best Things to Eat and Drink Market (July 18). Cultural events include Omatsuri, a Japanese festival (July 17-18), and Fiestaval (July 17-19).
