They kept it contained overnight and established firebreaks, but landfill fires are slow — all that mixed material burns deep in the piles, so crews need heavy equipment to uncover the burning stuff, douse it, then bury it with clean soil to smother it. Contractors are bringing in dirt. This is gonna take a while.
