June morning, long light ahead—grab your layers.
Ten degrees, high sun, and live music waiting. Here's what you need before the coffee kicks in.
It's mild out there but don't let the sunshine fool you—10°C means you're still layering this morning. The UV's running hot at 6.0, so if you're spending lunch outside, sunscreen's worth the two seconds. Tonight doesn't drop till 10:06 PM, so you've got a proper June evening to work with.
Commute's clear. Nothing blocking the usual routes this morning.
Couple of things landing in Edmonton worth a heads-up. The Oilers are eyeing Jason Dickinson for a re-sign—nothing's done, but the Oil are sniffing around a veteran centre if the money lines up right. Meantime, if you've been hearing about the aquatic centre down in High River, it just reopened after a $29.3M expansion, in case that's on your radar. And heads up if you file taxes: come July 1, most Albertans can claim a $100 energy rebate—mark that down.
Food-wise, there's some real movement on Whyte right now. Five Japanese restaurants just opened up at Station Park, so if you've been missing good ramen or fresh sushi on the Ave, that's worth a lunch run. If you want something different, a new South Indian spot's landed with 35 dosa varieties—proper range if you know what you're after. On the other end, Kommune Snack Bar closed down—rising downtown costs finally caught up with them, which stings a bit. But Cactus Club's got their summer menu running now, so if you want a Frosé or one of their $9 smash burgers, that's back on the board.
Tonight's got some solid live music and comedy if you're looking to get out. Lenny Pearce is doing a toddler rave thing at Midway at 4:30 PM if you want something weird and fun—that's got a particular vibe. If you want something more classic, Creedence Clearwater Remembered is at the Jube at 7:30 PM, and Malik B's doing comedy at Rick Bronson's at the same time. Pick your lane—music or laughs, either way the evening's built in.
One more thing on the business side: two Edmonton sisters just took over the oldest hotel in Jasper, which is a neat local story if you've got ties out that way.
Stay warm, catch some of that light, and hit me up if you need anything else sorted.
