Warmer morning, high sun, watch the detours — Edmonton, June 4.

Good morning. It's Thursday and we've warmed up nicely from yesterday—you're looking at 12°C, which is a real step up from the cool spell we just left. Sun's strong today (UV 6.0), so grab sunscreen if you're spending time outside, especially midday. You've got light till nearly 10 PM, so the evening stretches long. Dress in layers and you'll be sorted.

A few transit detours are live today, so give yourself a bit of extra time if you're catching the bus. Route 589 has a planned detour from the Ed Waste Management Centre northbound to the Coliseum. Route 008 has two separate planned detours—one eastbound around 40 St and 118 Ave, another westbound around 34 St and 118 Ave. Route 718 is taking a weekday detour via Rabbit Hill Road and 23 Avenue. If any of these are on your regular run, best to check ahead or give yourself a buffer.

Out on the roads, Highway 16 west of the city had a multi-vehicle collision that closed the westbound lanes this morning, so if you're heading that way, keep an eye on conditions and expect slowdowns. Range Road 253, over by the airport, has been getting torn up pretty badly by traffic—rutted out in spots—so watch your footing if you're walking or cycling that way.

On the bigger picture, there's some real stuff landing in the news today. A man's been charged with murder after a senior was found dead in a Glenora condo. That's the kind of story that lands heavy in the neighbourhood. And across the province, people are pushing back hard on that voter data breach—pretty understandable when your information gets out like that. On top of it, Alberta's looking at a D-minus when it comes to poverty and food insecurity, which is a conversation that matters.

On the food side, Khazana, which has been Edmonton's top-rated Indian restaurant, is closing its doors. That's a loss for the city. If you've been meaning to go, now's the time. On a brighter note, Brio Bakery just opened a new location in Mill Creek, so if you've got a spot for good bread and pastries in that part of town, they're there now.

Tonight's quiet on the event side—Thursday nights usually are. Tomorrow's got more going on, so if you're looking to get out, your best bets are just around the corner. For now, enjoy the warmth, watch for those bus detours, and you're set for the day.
