Saturday's for getting out — live music, comedy, and a soccer win to celebrate
Seven hours of daylight left. It's mild, UV's high, and E-town's got plans.
Morning. It's 7°C out there — not quite spring energy anymore, but still easy enough to move around without the deep freeze. UV's sitting at 6, which is high, so if you're heading outside for the day, sunscreen's worth it. You've got until just after 10 tonight, so plenty of light for whatever you're thinking of.
One heads-up on the roads: a school bus ditched on the Yellowhead Trail this morning. Sounds like it's been cleared, but keep an eye on that corridor if you're heading east or west through the city later.
Council's been talking about the patio program for next year — they're looking at ditching some of those encroachment fees, which could mean more patios popping up around the Ave and J-Ave come 2027. Easier summer seating for the rest of us.
On the fun side: Canada drew with Bosnia last night at the Ice District in the World Cup opener. If you missed it and want to catch the vibe, there's still soccer energy in the air around Rogers Place.
Lunch and dinner-wise, Cactus Club brought back Frosé and $9 smash burgers for the summer menu if you want something light and cold. Station Park food hall's opened back up with rotating vendors, so that's a solid pit stop if you're downtown. And if you're thinking ice cream later, there's a solid list of spots worth the lineup — summer's only just started.
For tonight, you've got options depending on your mood. Lou Barlow from Dinosaur Jr is playing The Buckingham at 5 with Cassia Hardy — that's indie rock territory if you want something mellow and live. If country's more your speed, Bailey Zimmerman's bringing the Different Night Same Rodeo Tour to Rogers Place at 7. Comedy's on at Rick Bronson's too, Jessimae Peluso at 7, if you want laughs. And if you're classical-leaning, the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra's at the Winspear at 7:30.
The Stingers are also hosting Scarborough at the EXPO Centre at 7 if you want to catch some basketball.
It's a Saturday with real stuff to do — pick your vibe and get out of the house. See you out there.
