A Sherwood Park man known for dancing at a busy intersection has been ticketed after police responded to public complaints about safety concerns.

Caden Skelton, who has danced at the corner of Baseline Road and Sherwood Drive for the past two years, was recently issued an $852 ticket for stunting, according to RCMP.

"Police received multiple public complaints regarding an individual dancing at a busy intersection," said Const. Cheri-Lee Smith in an email. "Our primary concern is and will remain public safety, both for the individual and for motorists and pedestrians using the roadway."

Police said officers spoke with Skelton on several occasions, outlining safety risks and asking him to move to a safer area where he could continue dancing. "Officers engaged with the individual on multiple occasions, explained the safety concerns associated with remaining in an active intersection, and requested that they relocate to an alternate location," Smith said.

Skelton began dancing publicly following a serious accident in which he suffered a basilar skull fracture while riding an electric longboard without a helmet. The injury led to temporary memory loss, changes to his personality, and loss of motor function. He has previously described dancing as a form of self-expression and a way to bring positivity to the community.

RCMP said their approach prioritizes education before enforcement. "Officers remain committed to applying the law fairly, consistently, and impartially," Smith said.
