Félix Auger-Aliassime's path to a breakthrough major final has ended. The fourth-seeded Montreal native lost to Italy's 10th-seeded Flavio Cobolli in the French Open quarterfinal on Wednesday, falling 6-4, 4-6, 4-6, 4-6.
Auger-Aliassime was Canada's last singles hope at the tournament. The draw had appeared to open for him after losses by No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 3 Novak Djokovic, along with the absence of injured reigning champion Carlos Alcaraz. But the Montreal player seemed to run out of gas against Cobolli.
Cobolli will meet the winner of a match between fellow Italians Matteo Berrettini and Matteo Arnaldi in the semifinals. For Auger-Aliassime, the loss marks another major disappointment in a season that had promised real breakthrough potential.
