Update — July 30, 2026: Montreal police are investigating the death as a suspected homicide following an altercation in the Sud-Ouest borough late Wednesday night, with the victim suffering multiple injuries sustained during an assault by one or more suspects who fled before officers arrived. The 42-year-old man was transported to hospital in critical condition after police responded to multiple 911 calls around 11:45 p.m. on Wednesday and died following treatment.
The body of a 36-year-old man who fell into the water last Sunday was recovered Thursday evening from the St. Lawrence River.
A call to 911 came in around 6:15 p.m. reporting the presence of a body in the waters near Dieppe Park in Ville-Marie. Montreal police water patrol located the body, and the Montreal Fire Department recovered it.
The deceased was identified as the man who had fallen into the water last Sunday. The investigation has been referred to the coroner's office to determine the exact cause of death.
