French Language Minister Jean-François Roberge tabled legislation Thursday to extend Bill 101's scope to vocational training and adult education as the parliamentary session winds down.

The four-page bill stipulates that school service centres and private educational institutions accredited for subsidized educational services must comply with the new requirement. Institutions providing education to those already "entitled" under existing law will be exempt.

Roberge has stated the measure would transfer 27,000 students from the English-language network to the French-language network. Premier Christine Fréchette had promised to pursue this direction during the CAQ leadership race.

Whether the bill can pass remains uncertain. The legislative agenda is already extremely full, and the session ends June 12.
