The federal government's Ebola containment measures will suspend more than 24,000 travel documents, the Immigration Department confirmed Thursday.

The 90-day ban affects residents from the Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and South Sudan and took effect at 11:59 p.m. ET on May 27. The suspension includes valid travel and immigration documents held by approximately 12,600 DRC residents and 11,500 Ugandan residents as of mid-May.

Canadian citizens, permanent residents, and other foreign nationals who have been in affected areas in recent weeks and don't show symptoms will be required to quarantine for 21 days starting May 30. The measures are part of coordinated action by Canada, the U.S., and Mexico ahead of the World Cup.
