Canoeist drowns on Upper Rideau Lake without life-jacket

A 24-year-old Brampton man died after his canoe capsized Saturday evening. Police say he was not wearing a life-jacket.

A 24-year-old Brampton man drowned Saturday after his canoe capsized on Upper Rideau Lake.

Officers from the Leeds County OPP detachment responded to a marine distress call just after 5:30 p.m. on May 30. The Grenville Paramedic Service and the Rideau Lakes Fire Department also attended.

After the canoeist was located, he was taken to hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Police confirmed he was not wearing a life-jacket at the time the canoe capsized.
