Canadians who took the prescription drug Rexulti and developed compulsive behaviours may be eligible for thousands in a $4.75-million settlement, but the filing deadline is just months away.

The Superior Court of Quebec approved the class-action settlement in November. Eligible Canadians must file claims by August 1, 2026.

The lawsuit, filed by the Consumer Law Group against manufacturers Otsuka Canada Pharmaceutical Inc. and Lundbeck Canada Inc., alleged that Rexulti can cause or worsen compulsive gambling, hypersexuality, binge-eating, and uncontrollable shopping. The plaintiffs claimed the defendants failed to adequately warn doctors and patients about these risks and concealed the dangers. Both companies agreed to the settlement without admitting liability.

To be eligible, you must have taken Rexulti for at least one month between February 16, 2017, and August 23, 2025, and developed one or more of the specified compulsive behaviours. You'll also need documentation: pharmacy records, medical files, proof of damages, and (if applicable) gambling or employment records.

Compensation depends on the severity of harm. The settlement divides payments into psychological harm and financial loss. For psychological harm, estimates are $6,531.25 for mild cases, $29,687.50 for moderate, $102,600 for severe, and $71,250 for catastrophic cases. An additional $570,000 is set aside for those who can prove lost income, employment losses, or gambling losses directly tied to Rexulti use. Family members can receive a percentage of the eligible person's psychological harm award, capped at $199,500.

Submit your claim form online by August 1, 2026. The claims administrator will determine compensation levels, and there's an appeal process if needed.
