Quebec Labour Minister Jean Boulet announced Wednesday, June 17, that he will leave political life at the end of his term. The Trois-Rivières MNA made the announcement in his riding, visibly moved as he reflected on his decision.

Boulet stated he had carefully considered the choice and wished to turn the page on this chapter of his career. He thanked former Premier François Legault for his support and expressed confidence in current Premier Christine Fréchette, saying she has "all the personal and professional skills to continue being a premier who can meet the needs and aspirations of Quebecers."

He dismissed suggestions that the Coalition Avenir Québec's recent difficulties influenced his decision. "I remain confident and optimistic about the future; this wasn't a determining factor in my decision-making process," he said.

Boulet, a labour lawyer, has represented Trois-Rivières since 2018. He served as Minister of Labour, Employment and Social Solidarity from 2018 to 2022, and held the additional portfolios of Immigration, Francization and Integration from 2021 until the 2022 election. After being re-elected in 2022, he returned to the labour ministry. Following Fréchette's victory as CAQ leader earlier this year, Boulet became Minister responsible for Canadian Relations. About 30 CAQ members of the National Assembly have announced they will not run in the next election.
