Friday kicks off with live music and sunshine — Ottawa, June 5.

Good morning. It's Friday, and you're stepping into the weekend with mostly cloudy skies and 13 degrees — basically a repeat of yesterday's temperature, so that light jacket still works. The UV index is sitting at 9.0, which is high, so if you're spending time outside today, sunscreen matters. You've got a long evening ahead too — the sun doesn't set till 8:47 PM, which means there's real time to do something after work if you're in the mood.

Nothing major blocking your commute this morning, so you're clear to get where you need to go. If you're driving out to Carling Avenue for any reason, just know it's holding onto its title as Ottawa's worst road — nothing new there, but worth keeping in mind if you've got options.

A couple of things worth knowing as you move through the day: mosquitoes are back in earnest now, so if you're planning anything outside this evening or over the weekend, bring the bug spray. On a heavier note, there's been a stabbing on Rideau Street — unprovoked — and a child was critically injured in a balcony fall in Stittsville yesterday. Both are the kind of incidents that hit hard, worth being aware of.

If you're thinking lunch and the weather holds, a patio's your move — you've got the light and the time for it. That's Bananas has just brought Brazilian street food to Baseline Road if you want something different, and if you're in the mood for something a bit more adventurous, Hum is introducing Ottawa to Uyghur kebabs and noodle dishes. Or if you're feeling something lighter, BeaverTails has partnered with Kraft Dinner for a summer menu — that's the kind of chaotic energy that lands on a Friday.

Come evening, you've got real options. If live music's your thing, Jinjer with Crystal Lake and Entheos is playing at the Bronson Centre at 6:00 PM, and there's a couple of smaller shows happening too — Family Man and Neon Ghosthouse at The 27 Club at 7:30 PM if you want something lower-key. If theatre's more your speed, Singin' In The Rain is running at Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe at 7:30 PM. And if you're across the river, there's a Blues Brothers tribute at Theatre du Casino du Lac-Leamy at 8:00 PM. Pick your vibe and go.

Have a good one. The weekend's right there.
