Sunday's got theater and rain — pick your spot indoors
Light showers all day, but the matinee crowd's already got the right idea.
It's 16 degrees and drizzling this morning — that light, persistent rain that'll stick around through the evening. UV's sitting high at 7, so if you're ducking between spots, the sunscreen still matters. Sunset's at 8:48, so you've got a full fifteen-plus hours of daylight to work with, even if it doesn't feel like it.
This is a Sunday that's made for indoors, honestly. The Redblacks had a rough go yesterday in the wet against Edmonton, and today's not shaping up much drier. But that's actually perfect if you've been meaning to catch a show.
The Studio School of Dance has their year-end recitals running at Algonquin Commons — "On Broadway" kicks off at 10 in the morning, then "Kick It Up" at 2 in the afternoon. If musical theater's your speed, "Singin' in the Rain" is playing a 2 p.m. matinee at Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe. There's a real argument for that one on a day like today — you'll get the irony, at least.
On the food front, if you're hunting for something different, there's Brazilian street food now over on Baseline Road courtesy of That's Bananas, and a new Mexican snack bar has opened in Chinatown if you're craving something quick and familiar. BeaverTails is also doing a summer collab with Kraft Dinner if you want to swing by the Canal or the Market — it's one of those things that sounds completely wild until you try it.
A couple of things worth knowing: there was an arrest last week in connection with the 2024 Little Italy homicide — case that's been hanging over the neighbourhood for two years. And the missing Barrhaven man from earlier this week turned up safe, which is the ending everyone hopes for.
Tonight, stay dry and pick something indoors. The rain's light enough that it won't ruin an evening out, but there's no reason to fight it when there's theater and a cozy dinner waiting. Sunset's late enough that you can make an evening of it without rushing.
Stay warm out there.
