Thursday's warming up — grab the sunscreen and get outside

It's a solid 5 degrees warmer than we've been sitting with, so if you've been holding off on heading out, today's your day. We're at 20°C, mostly cloudy, and the UV is running high at 9.0 — so pack the sunscreen even if you're just walking to the O-Train. You've got until 8:51 PM to make the most of the daylight, so plan accordingly.

Commute-wise, it's a regular Thursday — nothing major flagged on the transit side. The usual flow. OC Transpo's quietly rolling out gas generators to shore up e-bus charging, which is worth noting if you're watching the LRT infrastructure stuff.

Council's greenlit a $229M infrastructure funding plan, which means money's moving on some of the stuff that matters around the city. Not glamorous, but solid. On a heavier note, a youth's been charged after a fire in Barrhaven that killed three dogs — a rough reminder to keep an eye on fire safety, especially as it warms up.

On the brighter side, Taste for Hope just raised $437K for Shepherds of Good Hope, which is huge for the community. And if you're into the arts side of things, Claude Latour's doing interesting work bringing Algonquin tradition into the digital space — worth a look if that resonates.

If you're thinking food, there's some fun stuff worth trying. BeaverTails has partnered with Kraft Dinner for a summer menu — yes, really — and if you're craving something different, That's Bananas just landed Brazilian street food over on Baseline Road. If you're meal prepping or hitting the grocery store, the weekly review's live for June 11–17, so check that before you shop.

This evening, if you want to get out, there's volleyball at The Arena at TD Place starting at 4 PM (Volleyball Nations League, Day 2), and the Canadian School of Dance Recital's on at Algonquin Commons Theatre at 6:30 PM. Nothing major on the sports calendar otherwise — the Brockton Rox are playing the Titans at Ottawa Stadium, but that's an early one at 3:30 AM, so unless you're a dedicated night owl, skip that.

Otherwise it's a quiet Thursday. Good day to get outside, knock off work early if you can, and enjoy the warmth while it's here. The weekend's shaping up busier, so soak this one up.

Have a good one.
