Sunday's got rain and live music — plan indoor
Thunderstorm watch, but the Bronson's warm and Tim Hicks is on. Dance shows too if you're up early.
Rain's rolling in this morning—we're sitting at 16°C with a shower on the way, and Environment Canada's got a severe thunderstorm watch up for Ottawa and Gatineau. Worth keeping an eye on as the day goes. The UV's sitting at 3 (moderate), so if you catch any sun between the showers, you'll want sunscreen. Sun doesn't set until 8:52 p.m., so there's plenty of daylight even if it's cloudy, but plan your outdoor stuff early and have an indoor backup ready.
On the roads, 417's still in rebuild mode from the recent collapse, but good news: all lanes should be back by June 22. If you're heading west or east on the highway, you know the drill—expect delays and give yourself extra time.
Local bit worth knowing: somebody cut down a Pride flag in rural West Ottawa, and police are investigating. Also, Roger Griffiths got honoured with a street sign over in Stittsville—worth a moment if you know his work around the community. The 67's wrapped their draft too, picking up nine forwards, three defencemen, and two goalies.
If you're thinking food, there's good eating out there on every budget. Linden Pizza on Beechwood is doing exceptionally thin, crisp crusts if you're in the mood for pizza. There's also solid guides on best tacos around the city and eating well for $20 or less if you want to explore.
For the day itself, you've got options. The Denise Smith Dance Studio has Show Time 2026 running at Algonquin Commons Theatre at both 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.—good if you want live performance early. The Volleyball Nations League is also at The Arena at TD Place starting at 11 a.m. if you're in a sports mood.
Tonight's the real draw, though. Tim Hicks is at Bronson Centre at 7 p.m. on his Going Somewhere Tour—indoor, warm, and perfect for a rainy Sunday night. With the thunderstorm watch in effect, you'll want to head in before things get heavy anyway.
Stay dry out there. See you on the other side of the rain.
