Monday's clear and warm — get out and catch something live.
Sunny start to the week, a few transit hiccups, and live music waiting for tonight.
Good Monday morning. It's 16°C and mainly sunny — high UV at 9.0, so if you're heading outside for lunch or catching the game tonight, the sunscreen's worth it. You've got a solid 15 hours of daylight, sunset at 8:57 PM, which means there's real time to work with.
On the commute side, a few things to know: the Don Valley Parkway is closed northbound beyond Eglinton, and if you're heading up the 400 at Finch, expect delays. The TTC's got some disruptions too — the 503 Kingston is detouring through Coxwell, Eastern, and Leslie because of a fire in that area, and the 501 Queen's doing the same route via Coxwell, Gerrard, and Broadway. Line 1's also down between College and St. George, so plan around that if you're heading downtown. On the 401 westbound express past Victoria Park, three left lanes are blocked by a disabled vehicle — not ideal for the morning push, but keep an eye on it.
Worth knowing: the Marlies just booked their spot in the Calder Cup Finals with an OT winner — that's good news for T.O. hockey. And if you're into football, Canada's hosting Bosnia in the first men's World Cup match at home on Wednesday, so the city's got that energy building.
For lunch or dinner, there's some solid moves. If you're willing to drive out to Burlington for it, there's a beach shack doing smash burgers that's worth the trip. And if you're thinking summer dessert, the Canis chefs are opening a gelato spot called Cono this summer — keep that on your radar. There's also a whole thing happening with frozen treats beyond the usual ice cream around the city right now.
Tonight's the play. The Jays are home at Rogers Centre against the Phillies at 7:07 PM — the weather's clear for it. If baseball's not your move, there's live music across the city: Modern Alibi at the Drake at 7, INJI at the Opera House at 7, Smokedope2016 at History at 7, and Studio 24 Dance Company doing a live show at Meadowvale Theatre at 6:30. Take your pick.
It's one of those Mondays where getting out actually makes sense. Whether that's the ballpark, a patio, or catching a band — the day's set up for it.
