Calgary will host Energy Disruptors: UNITE on September 28 and 29, drawing 3,000 founders, scientists, engineers, investors, and industry leaders from North America and 30 countries to the BMO Centre.
The summit — billed as one of the fastest-growing energy events in the world — brings together leaders from nuclear energy to batteries to discuss the future of energy. Around 100 speakers will be featured.
Three high-profile keynotes anchor the 2026 edition. Former U.K. Prime Minister David Cameron will discuss renewable energy alongside his perspective on sovereignty, having governed through Scotland's 2014 independence referendum and the 2016 Brexit vote. "He's going to be talking about his energy track record, but he's also going to be talking about those two major sovereignty votes, and how you lead through disruption and fragmentation when you get really deep political divides," said UNITE co-founder and CEO Graeme Edge.
Author Margaret Atwood, who wrote The Handmaid's Tale, will address Canada's economic, technological, and cultural transformation. Economist Tyler Cowen, whose online blog Marginal Revolution reaches a wide audience, will speak on how the world must energize growth in AI over the coming decade.
Edge expects this to be UNITE's biggest event yet. "The idea is how you put this really interesting mix of speakers together to bring different perspectives," he said. "Not necessarily we're all going to agree, but we're trying to bring opposing views together and have respectful dialogue and respectful disagreement."
